What is Cobble?

Explore your own way with CobbleGo

No need to follow a route—just start walking. CobbleGo uses GPS to trigger audio stories wherever you happen to be, offering history, drama and insight in real time as you pass by the places that inspired them. Set your interests and you’ll get the most relevant stories first.

Best for: Casual strolls, spontaneous adventures, and seeing your everyday routes in a whole new light.

Delve in depth with Cobble Collections

Scenes and stories grouped together so you can explore a topic, person, place or period at your pace – there’s no set walk, but we’ve brought together some of our finest stories to bring you in-depth insight into a whole array of topics.

Best for: Learning about new places, people and things on your own terms.

Be guided on our Cobble Walks

Pre-planned walking routes, carefully crafted by our team of historians and writers to tell compelling, cohesive stories as you walk. These narrative-rich experiences link together multiple locations, drawing you through neighbourhoods in ways that are surprising, thoughtful and immersive.

Best for: Discovering new areas, uncovering hidden histories, and walking with purpose.

About Cobble

We are surrounded by stories – we just don’t know how to find them. Cobble was created to help you slow down, look around, and reawaken a sense of connection with the places you walk through every day.

Forget boring old-school walking tours with no freedom: using live GPS, Cobble plays immersive audio stories triggered by your location, and adapts to your interests as you go, turning the streets of London into a vast exhibit – and you’re the curator.

Here's how it works:

Quality research and stories you can trust

Cobble is powered by original research from reputable academics and historians. With masters’ and doctorates from world-leading universities and specialisms from Roman London to the Caribbean diaspora, they dig deep into archives, maps, letters and diaries so you can trust what you hear.

Don’t be told the story, be in it

Instead of tour guides telling you lists of facts, Cobble brings them to life. Our stories are immersive theatrical scenes, with professional actors bringing historical figures to life and digital voice recreation using archival recordings.

Surround sound in the streets

With original music, layered sound engineering, and archival clips, Cobble places you in the stories you’re hearing, from the crackle of wartime broadcasts to the streetscape of Regency London.

Your walk, your way

Tired of constricting routes and start points? Whether you're walking to work or just taking a stroll, CobbleGo responds to your location in real time. It’s not a tour. It’s a conversation with the city—fluid, responsive, and built around your movements.

London’s calling: stories selected for you

No two walks with Cobble are the same - because no two listeners are. Pick your interests and Cobble will choose the stories you’ll enjoy most, adapting to your tastes in real time to dish up morsels of the city just for you.

Built by passionate creatives

Our team includes playwrights, directors, educators, journalists, composers, film stars and West End performers – meaning our stories are less factoids, more real-world theatre.

Explore Cobble

Here are just a few of the many stories you can find dotted across London on Cobble.

The breakaway criminal who became a national sensation…

Totting up an impressive grand total of 841 days on the loose, Alfie Hinds became a celebrity for his repeated prison breaks, all supposedly in the name of publicising his innocence.

0:002:11
The love triangle of political intrigue with a murderous end…

Marriage annulments, gossip-laden poems, accusations of betrayal, royal entanglements – the scandal of Sir Thomas Overbury, Robert Carr and Frances Howard consumed the imaginations of King James I’s court, and nearly threatened to derail his reign altogether when an esteemed nobleman wound up dead.

0:006:12
The Victorian Prime Minister with a penchant for Covent Garden’s ladies...

William Gladstone, four-times Prime Minister in the 19th century, excited titillation with his habit of picking up prostitutes from the streets of Covent Garden, taking them home to his wife and showering them with gifts.

Supposedly a series of ‘rescue’ missions, these adventures come with some eyebrow-raising diary entries.

0:003:13
The warts-and-all artist who brought London to lurid life…

A breastfeeding mother too drunk to notice her baby tumbling down a flight of steps; brothel customers spilling out onto the streets – this was Hogarth’s world, and he was unafraid to dig into the true lives of 18th century London, etching the horrid reality of Covent Garden’s streets.

0:002:43
The sliver-thin alleyway that housed refugees of colourful flavours…

Calling all guys ‘n’ gals, cuties ‘n’ chickens, rent boys ‘n’ muscle men, leather lovers ‘n’ sock eaters: discover the safe sanctuary for gay men hidden down London’s narrowest alleyway in the days when the prospect of arrest loomed around every corner.
